Positive Response

Positive Response is an automated information system that allows excavators, locators, operators, and other interested parties to determine the status of a locate request until the notice has been closed or expires. Before beginning the work, the excavator is required to check Positive Response to verify all facility operators have responded. Please review our positive response page for a more detailed understanding.

One of the purposes of our metrics is to track what percentage of members are responding to excavation notices on time. This is defined as a member responding with a "closed code" within the allotted three (business) day window after a notice has been tramsitted.

What about where all members responded on time?

In this visualization, we're measuring all responses within the three day window segregated per notice. So, we're tracking each notice to see if all members have responded within the window. We only have this data from 2022 forward. As you can see, these percentages show a slightly worse rate when viewed from this angle. We drill down further behind the scenes to gain a better understanding of who/what causes these dips, but this at least gives you a decent idea of the progressions of positive response historically and currently.
